How to locate a puncture in an inflatable pool

July 18, 2023

Opting for an inflatable pool is betting on a functional and resistant product, ideal for cooling off in summer. It can be adapted to different areas of the house, being easy to assemble and disassemble seasonally.

However, despite all these advantages, inflatable pools run the risk of perforations that cause water loss.

For this reason, at PoolFunStore we tell you how to detect these punctures and what to do to repair them and thus extend the useful life of your inflatable pool.

How to locate a puncture in an inflatable pool

Ways to detect punctures in an inflatable pool

After getting your inflatable pool ready for the summer season, you may notice that it is losing water. If so, a puncture in the liner could be the cause, something that becomes more difficult the larger the pool.

To test this theory, experts recommend doing the cube test. For this you will need a cube, of course, and a marker or, failing that, adhesive tape. Once all these accessories have been gathered, you must fill ⅔ parts of the bucket with water, marking the surface line on the inside. After this, leave the bucket inside the pool and mark, this time outside the bucket, how far the water level reaches. Wait 24-48 hours to see if you notice any difference from the markings. If this difference is greater outside the bucket, the pool liner has a puncture.

In that case, it's time to decide if the puncture is worth locating and repairing. Check the different components of the inflatable pool, such as the skimmer, the pump and the filter. It is advisable to clean the latter and check that once the filtration system is activated, everything works correctly. Likewise, feeling all the equipment will be useful to notice moisture where it should not be.

If, despite everything, you do not find the puncture, the experts suggest performing another test, the ink test. To do this you will need diving goggles, a syringe and a red food coloring. When you have everything, turn off the filtration system to see if the ink is sucked or not. Most likely, if there is a puncture, it will be near the screwed areas. With diving goggles you should be able to locate the source of the puncture.
