How to lay artificial grass

1.- Prepare the ground

The first thing we must do is prepare the ground. We have to clean the floor well and leave it smooth and compact. Also, you have to provide a gentle slope towards a drain so that the water does not stagnate. Similarly, if the grass is going to be placed on a smooth surface, we must mark the entire contour that is going to cover the grass with adhesive tape and, later, remove the plastic that protects the glue.

2.- Add a solid base

If the ground on which we are going to place the grass does not have it, we must add a solid base before putting it. First, we will put a layer of gravel and then another of sand about eight centimeters thick. With them, we will achieve a perfect settlement of the grass and a correct drainage. Likewise, both layers must be separated by a geotextile mesh. In this way, we will prevent the sand from going away with the water when draining it.

3.- Prepare the grass rolls

Once we have prepared the base and placed the adhesive strips, it is time to focus on the grass rolls. We have to unroll them and stretch them well. Then, we place the strips of grass on the layer of sand and gravel, ensuring that they are well seated to prevent folds and creases.

We can cut the ones that we are going to put with a cutter and always from the back. They must have the exact measure to cover the entire perimeter. Also, where there are objects such as a tree, we have to cut the grass so that it is around and tight.

Likewise, we need to ensure that the joints are not visible. For this, they must be well united. And we also have to lay all the grass fibers facing the same direction. Thus, it will have a more natural appearance.

4.- Place the grass strips

It's time to lay the grass strips. The easiest way to stick them is with the adhesive tape that we were talking about. But we must also place self-adhesive strips under the grass itself. However, if the surface is rough, it may be better to use a special glue for this grass.

Once the herbs are placed, press with your hands so that the strips are well attached and trim what is left over. Finally, place weights on the joints to help them stick and not be seen. For example, you can use sandbags. Leave them 24 hours.
